Every morning offers hope for a fresh beginning. That’s why we sing the Venkatesa Suprabatham or the Thirupalli Ezhuchi in the morning to wake up the Lord and seek His blessings.
Thirupalli Ezhuchi (the Lord awakens)
917. The sun’s rays touch the mountain peaks. The darkness is dispelled. The flowers that blossom in the morning have commenced to bloom. The celestials as well as the kings have assembled in the south (Srirangam). Their elephants trumpet triumphantly and the sound echoes in all directions. Ranga, rise from your bed!
918. The morning breeze carries with it the fragrance of blooming flowers. The swans stretch their wings to shake the morning dew that has formed on their feathers. You dispelled the distress of Gajendra the elephant, when a crocodile caught hold of him. Ranga, rise from your bed!
919. The rays of the sun now touch all the directions. The stars have started to fade away. Darkness has dispelled. The gentle breeze flows through betel nut plants and bring the fragrance of betel nuts with it. You hold the mighty conch in your hands. Ranga, rise from your bed!
920. The sound of the flute and the tinkling bells hanging from the necks of the calves heading out for grazing, reach us from every direction. The bees have started to hum noisily around the honey-combs. You are the Lord who wielded the bow to destroy the Asuras (of Lanka). You protected the yagna of Rishi Vishwamitra. You are the king of Ayodhya. Ranga, rise from your bed!
921. The birds have started to chirp. The night has gone. Dawn is here. We can hear the sound of the ocean waves. The bees have started to hum noisily after partaking honey. The celestials wait for you holding colorful garlands in their arms. The king of Lanka (Vibhishana) worships you. Ranga, rise from your bed!
922. In the beautiful chariots, the Surya, the Vasus, the six-faced Muruga and other celestials compete with each other, to approach your magnificent temple and to wait for you. Ranga, rise from your bed!
923. Oh Lord! In front of your temple, Indra stands mounted on his elephant – Airavata. Accompanying him are the Rishis who have done severe penances, Gandharvas – the celestial musicians and other celestials. There is so much crowd all around that there is simply no place to stand on heaven and earth. Ranga, rise from your bed!
924. For you to wear your tilakam, Rishis included Narada and Tumburu hold white and red colored pastes. The sun has risen. Darkness has been dispelled. Ranga, rise from your bed!
925. With trumpets blaring and drums beating, the sound of flute melodiously waft in all directions. Gandharvas, Rishis, Garuda and other celestials sing songs about you. Bless them all by showing your face. Ranga, rise from your bed!
926. The beloved of Cauvery! The lotus has blossomed and is fragrant. The sun has risen over the oceans. The damsels dry their wet hair and climb up the river banks in their drenched clothes. Accept the prayers of this Thondaradi Podi who carries a basket of garlands for you. Ranga, rise from your bed!
Thus concludes the composition of Thondaradi Podi Alwar. Next we will enjoy the verses of Thiruppaan Alwar.
In the meanwhile, have a ‘Suprabatham’ today and every day here after! 🙂
